The fuel economy of this regular hybrid version won’t touch that of the plug-in, but it won’t break the bank, either. Hyundai claims the Santa Fe Hybrid should return 40mpg around town and closer to 30mpg at motorway speeds. This seems realistic for a large SUV; the Toyota Highlander returns similar figures. Crucially, it posts similar
Across our week with 2023 Santa Fe Highlander Diesel AWD, we achieved fuel consumption of 7.1L/100km – not too far off Hyundai’s claim of 6.1L/100km and half as much as 14.2L/100km we’ve seen in the past testing a V6 petrol Santa Fe in similar conditions. Our testing of the CX-8 revealed a near identical 7.2L/100km, though the KlugerBetter airflow benefits fuel economy as well as making for a quieter interior. Power comes from either a four-cylinder 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, with 145 kW of power and a big 436 Nm of torque with an automatic transmission (421 Nm with six-speed manual); or a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol (141 kW, 242 Nm).
